The season up until now for HANNspree Honda Althea team has certainly been very difficult, principally because of many problems, especially physical, that occurred to the riders. Rarely a team has had to face so many accidents. Until today Salvatore Giorlandino’s team has not been able to employ, at the same time, all the riders who were selected at the beginning of the racing season in order to obtain determined performances. This could have been easily reached by a team that for many years has been among the most competitive in Supersport and this year has made its debut in Superbike. In Supersport, Tommy Hill and Gianluca Nannelli guaranteed experience, ambition and competition, but unfortunately for Hill the season hasn’t started yet. In fact during winter testing in Calafat he had a bad accident and had to undergo a very long and difficult operation and six months of full recovery. Hill will start his season by competing at Nurburgring on his Honda CBR 600 RR. A few days ago Hill showed very positive trial results at the race track of Anagni near Rome. He is now fully recovered from
his accident and he’s ready to participate at the Supersport race in Nurburgring. During his absence Andrea Antonelli first, and Gianluca Vizziello later, took part in the races. At the first European race Nannelli crashed in Valencia during Friday’s practice injuring his
right shoulder. This new accident conditioned the season for both the team and the Italian rider, who has now totally recovered.
Unfortunately, he was “replaced in hospital” by Roberto Rolfo who had an accident the week before Monza’s Superbike race (this was an important race for him and for the team, considering the very good results obtained last year in Monza). Because of his accident Rolfo missed the race and attended the following race in Salt Lake City in poor physical condition. Only a few days ago he discovered another fracture to his glenoid bone (that’s a part of the shoulder blade) that was not revealed by the previous medical report. Luckily he won’t need an operation but he’s following a Clinica Mobile treatment in order to be able to participate in the German race and take full advantage of the power of his Honda Superbike. The main regret of the technical staff, headed by expert technician Massimo Tulli, is not having had the possibility of using at its fullest the potentiality of the bikes which demonstrated, in particular in Supersport, to be very fast and reliable. In fact during Assen race, Vizziello, who for the first time was using HANNspree Honda Althea bike, registered the fastest lap, while Nannelli in many races recovered a large number of positions thanks to his capacity, but also to the bike which permitted to catch up with those riders who werein the lead. Regarding the new Honda CBR 1000 RR, it was available just a few weeks before the world championship started. In fact the team had to use the bike during the first races of the
season in order to test it and to tune up the engine and develop the frame and electronic components. Now it was the opportunity for the team to gather the fruits of their hard work but they were so unlucky again. We hope that Roberto will rapidly recover and demonstrate that HANNpsree Honda Althea team can obtain in Superbike the same good results as it did in Supersport.
